Smiths at the Rapids

Welcome to 2018.  A few days ago I had the privilege of taking some family photos for some friends who were in town.  The wife/mom/aunt is from here and I know them from Durham. Its fun when people come visit! 🙂

It was cold and I had the boys with but we made it work and had a fun time.  We ended the time with some play on the playground.

The Savannah Rapids is such a perfect place for photography.  Great lighting, different places and backgrounds, water, sun, wood, barn, perfect for family shots.

Friendships are super important to me.  I love keeping in touch with people and I’m very glad for social media for that reason.

This friend in particular, we’ve spent most of our friendship apart from each other.  We got to know each other while she was across the globe serving as a missionary.  We shared stories of Jesus and the Gospel and health and weight loss.  We’ve been together in NC some, sharing stories of engagement, marriage, loss, struggles.

Bonnie asked me to take her and Chuy’s engagement photos and it was so much fun.

They’ve gotten married, we’ve moved away, they’ve had two beautiful little girls, and now are preparing to move cross country to serve our country in the Air Force.

B – girl, our friendship has survived and thrived over the years.  Thanks for visiting me and bringing the girls. And bringing the owls, and the Pete the Cat books, and your love for conversations! Here’s to a trip to NM!

Owens in Gray Court

These dear people have been friends of mine for almost 20 years and across the entire country.  I’m so excited this family is back in the South for a little bit.  I got to meet their youngest daughter, laugh, off-road it, and explore their family’s land for this family session.  Enjoy.  And stop sometimes and take photos of the pretty things you come across on your journey.  And keep friendships!  They are important!

King Family at the Rapids

This family is a favorite.  I love this lady’s barstool, where the past three years I’ve spent many an afternoon, sitting there, talking, creating, sharing parenting secrets.  Our boys plays so well with their kiddos, like hours on end.  I’ve had to kick a door in at their rental because the door was locked with kids locked inside.  We had a few taco nights under our belt.

Because chips and salsa and fajitas cement a friendship!

This past Saturday was chili but we had great sunshine as we ventured to the Savannah Rapids Pavilion.  It was fun to show off our new town.

I had the privilege of spending the day with this little bundle of pink, her mama, and her extended family this week.  I’ve known here Mama now for 17 years in January.  We’ve studied and cooked together, lived in the same dorm together, taken many midnight walks together, rode bikes together, been across the world together. We used to be neighbors in ATL, but now we live just a couple hours apart.

Our kids are like siblings – where most of the time they get along.  Can’t wait to watch this little one grow.

Here are just some of her session with me that day.  You are loved, baby Emmy.

Baby Oliver

Valentine’s Day is for rolls of soft baby skin – isn’t it?  I had the wonderful privilege of visiting a sweet girlfriend a few weeks ago in North Carolina and loving on her new little valentine in her life.

Newborn session

When you are over due with your baby and the weather report shows ice in the forecast, especially in the south, you may start to get a little anxious.  And I don’t know if it was the ice or the cookies that made the little one decide to come – but one thing I do know, baby Oliver came, and is safe, and warm, and loved, and adorable.

Baby Oliver

And let me hand it to you newborn photographers: y’all amaze me.  Baby Oliver was nice and asleep until his momma took his clothes off – he was having none of it.  But, I’ve also come to learn that it isn’t good to stress the parents out… Just be patient, go with what you get, plan for a long time (which I didn’t have), and love on the parents.  They are the ones who have a newborn.  And relationships are vital, pictures are extra!

Baby Oliver

Mom and Dad of baby Oliver – I love yall.  Yall are dear to me.  And I can’t wait to see yall in the Spring!

The Cooks Maternity

A beautiful park and a beautiful Fall day and a beautiful Momma and her family – made this a wonderful first maternity photo shoot for me.  Thanks Jennifer for not having baby Cook yet and for sharing your life and family with me.  Will be looking forward to meeting you cute new son and bringing you macaroni and cheese – because we know that that meal makes all things better!

My prayers to our faithful God for knitting your baby beautifully and for protection over the next few days or weeks.  And strength – can’t forget strength!

Faces: Sibling Love

One of the pleasures of getting married is the chance to automatically have a larger family.  Before the mister and I tied the knot, we had the chance to go visit his aunt and uncle who live in Colonial Williamsburg.  We had a blast.  We both love to travel, eat, and admire history, and his aunt and uncle were gracious hosts and very hospitable.

Almost three years later, here we are in the Atlanta area, and that same aunt and uncle – their son, daughter-in-law, and grandson and daughter live in the same city we do.  They’ve been a gracious welcome wagon for us and we look forward to more time spent with them.

The boys and I had the pleasure of hanging out in the Marietta Square with them this past week.  E is about to lose her first teeth, so we had to capture that pretty smile beforehand.  These pictures were fun, followed by a chaotic lunch at Taqueria Tsunami (for an amazing Korean BBQ quesadilla and their stellar made-to-order guacamole).  I hope you enjoy some of the moments I was able to capture.

I got to know Kathie when we took a short road trip down to Fort Worth, Texas for a photography workshop given by Casey and Kristin.  It was a fun short trip a year ago this weekend.  Meaning…it was missions weekend last year and this year is the missions weekend at our church.  How timely!

Last weekend we got to head out to Two Rivers park here in Little Rock, just minutes from our home, on a gorgeous evening about dusk time, and take some photos of her with her love.  Thanks Richard and Kathie for letting me share your lives with my readers!  It was a joy taking your photos!

Its really interesting who God brings into your life and what their passions are.  I first met Carrie back when I was doing college ministry at a local church and she was a student at UNC.  How both of our lives have changed!

Her interests: designing beautiful girl’s clothing (all you moms out there need a new dress for your daughters – right?), loving people, encouraging them, being real with friends, making dreams happen for others.  She is sweet and loves pink (can you tell by these pictures?).  We had a fun photo shoot with balloons, fun accessories, and the hottest day in Durham so far.  American Tobacco was quiet this morning for which I was thankful and the wind kept to a minimum so the balloons weren’t ALL over the place.

Loving God…loving others – this is what she likes to do!
